The agency. Ukraine’s parliament has voted in favor of banning some Russian music in the media and in public places.
The ban will not apply to all Russian music. Instead the ban relates to music created or performed by those who became Russian citizens after 1991.
But, artists who condemn the Russian war in Ukraine can petition for exemption from the embargo .
Similarly, Parliament has banned book imports from Russia and Belarus. Many of those living in areas of eastern and southern Ukraine have historically felt strong ties to Russia.
The russian language is the first language of most people in the region. But, the Russian strikes in Ukraine have sought to separate many Ukrainians from Russian culture.
A bill approved by MPs on Sunday bans playing or performing some Russian music on television, radio, schools, public transport, hotels, restaurants, cinemas and other public places.
